About Ask Legal Matters

Ask Legal Matters runs this website and its intake forms. When you submit a case review request, we record it and share it with the independent attorneys, law firms and legal services organisations listed on our Marketing Partners page. Those partners, not Ask Legal Matters, decide whether to contact you, whether to offer a consultation and whether to accept your case.

We do not:

• Give legal advice, represent you, or act as your attorney.
• Decide whether you have a valid claim or how much it is worth.
• Guarantee that an attorney will contact you or accept your case.
• Charge you anything for submitting a request.

Our forms ask a short set of screening questions: when the accident happened, whether you were injured, whether you were at fault, whether you received medical treatment, and whether you already have an attorney. These questions exist so that partners can decide quickly whether a request fits the cases they handle. They are not a legal determination. A message such as “your request has been sent for review” means exactly that.

Requests are stored in our own secure system and shared with partners under the consent you give at submission, which is reproduced word-for-word on the Consent Disclosure page. Requests submitted with a test email address, duplicates, and requests without consent are not shared for marketing purposes.

Case review requests are accepted from every U.S. state. Whether a participating attorney is available depends on your state, the type of case and its facts. A submission is a request for review, not a guarantee that an attorney will accept your case or that you are legally entitled to compensation.

We accept requests for these injury case types: car accidents, truck accidents, slip and fall, workplace injuries, medical malpractice, wrongful death, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian accidents. Not every partner handles every case type, and availability for a case type can vary by state. If no participating attorney is available for your request, you may not be contacted. You are always free to contact any attorney directly.

We publish state guides for the states where participating partners currently accept motor vehicle accident inquiries. Each guide is researched separately against that state's statutes and official resources rather than generated from a template.

Partners are added to our network by agreement and are listed publicly on the Marketing Partners page, which we keep current. Some partners are legal services organisations that route requests to attorneys in their own networks.

Ask Legal Matters does not independently verify the bar license, discipline history or experience of any individual attorney a partner may connect you with. Before you sign an agreement, confirm the attorney's status with the licensing authority in your state. Two examples: the State Bar of Georgia and the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility both publish public attorney directories.

Ask Legal Matters may receive compensation from participating attorneys, law firms and marketing partners when it shares a case review request with them. Consumers are never charged for submitting a request. This compensation does not change the fee terms you agree with any attorney you hire.

This is the same arrangement described in section 9 of our Terms of Service. It means we have a commercial interest in you submitting a request. It does not give us any role in your case or any share of your recovery.

You are never required to hire an attorney who contacts you through this service. You can decline a consultation, consult more than one attorney, or hire an attorney you found yourself. Any engagement, including fees, is agreed directly between you and the attorney in a written fee agreement.

An attorney-client relationship is formed when you and an attorney agree that the attorney will represent you, usually in writing. Submitting a form to Ask Legal Matters is a request for a review, sent to a company that is not a law firm. Until you and an attorney have agreed to representation, no attorney is acting for you, deadlines are not being protected on your behalf, and nothing you send us is protected by attorney-client privilege. Do not wait for a call back if a legal deadline is close.

The injury and state guides on this site are written by the Ask Legal Matters editorial team and checked against the primary sources listed at the bottom of each guide. They have not been reviewed by an attorney, and we say so on every guide rather than implying otherwise. Each guide shows its publication and last revision date. If you find an error, email legal@asklegalmatters.com and we will review the correction and update the page.
