Washington's State Patrol distinguishes obtaining a collision report from submitting a civilian collision report and from examining crash statistics. Its Collision Records page links the WRECR request system, the civilian-report system and a data-analysis tool. Choose the function that matches the task: searching statistics will not retrieve an individual's full report, and requesting a copy does not create a new report. The involved names, collision date and investigating-agency information help organize the search.

For work-related injuries, the Department of Labor and Industries provides a separate claim-filing guide and explains that self-insured employers use their own filing route. Preserve employer, provider and claim-manager communications separately from police material, even where the work injury arose from a road collision. Washington Courts links public court-access and self-help resources for existing legal proceedings. Our Grant County guide illustrates the local picture through Moses Lake Police's disclosure instructions and the Superior Court Clerk in Ephrata. For falls and treatment-related injuries, identify the property or healthcare record holder rather than assuming a police report exists. Accurate records can help explain an inquiry; they do not establish fault, benefits eligibility or a guaranteed outcome, and Ask Legal Matters is a lead-generation service rather than a Washington law firm.

County guides and nearby city resources

County guides explain how to distinguish local records offices. Existing city pages remain available separately; these resource hubs do not replace them.

Dedicated locality articles

All listed communities in Washington

The official place inventory contains 639 geographic entries in Washington. It includes small incorporated places and census-designated communities. A directory entry identifies a place and its statewide resource route; it does not claim that an attorney or office is based there.

Match the record to the accident

A traffic report, an employer incident report, a property owner’s report and a medical record are different documents. Start with the organization that created the record. Do not assume a statewide agency holds every local file.

  • Car, truck, motorcycle, pedestrian and bicycle collisions: identify the responding law-enforcement agency and report number.
  • Slip, trip and fall incidents: retain the exact property location and any report made to the owner or manager.
  • Work-related injuries: keep the employer notice and claim correspondence separate from a safety complaint.
  • Medical care concerns: list providers and treatment dates so records requests go to the correct custodian.

Before discussing your injury inquiry

Write a short timeline, preserve original documents and identify gaps rather than filling them with guesses. A government record is information, not a promise that a legal claim exists. Ask a lawyer licensed in the appropriate state about deadlines, who may bring a claim and whether the facts support representation. The office that maintains a record cannot choose your legal strategy.
