Utah Highway Patrol uses a records-request portal for its crash and police reports. Its instructions describe identity verification and ask for details such as the date, location and known case number. A municipal police department may publish a different route for its own documents, so confirm the investigating agency before choosing a portal. A request for copies and a new incident report are different tasks, and neither should be confused with a court filing.

The Labor Commission's injured-worker page provides workers' compensation process links, coverage information and claim-specialist assistance. Keep employer and compensation correspondence independently labeled, including when a work injury involved a vehicle. Utah State Courts provides public case and court-information resources for existing proceedings. Our Iron County guide compares Cedar City Police's report and media requests with the Fifth District Court's separate recording-copy route. A police dash-camera recording and a recording of a court hearing are different materials held by different offices. For falls or suspected medical negligence, identify private property and provider records separately. A case-review inquiry can state which documents remain missing without assuming that a report proves liability or that representation is guaranteed.

County guides and nearby city resources

County guides explain how to distinguish local records offices. Existing city pages remain available separately; these resource hubs do not replace them.

All listed communities in Utah

The official place inventory contains 334 geographic entries in Utah. It includes small incorporated places and census-designated communities. A directory entry identifies a place and its statewide resource route; it does not claim that an attorney or office is based there.

Match the record to the accident

A traffic report, an employer incident report, a property owner’s report and a medical record are different documents. Start with the organization that created the record. Do not assume a statewide agency holds every local file.

  • Car, truck, motorcycle, pedestrian and bicycle collisions: identify the responding law-enforcement agency and report number.
  • Slip, trip and fall incidents: retain the exact property location and any report made to the owner or manager.
  • Work-related injuries: keep the employer notice and claim correspondence separate from a safety complaint.
  • Medical care concerns: list providers and treatment dates so records requests go to the correct custodian.

Before discussing your injury inquiry

Write a short timeline, preserve original documents and identify gaps rather than filling them with guesses. A government record is information, not a promise that a legal claim exists. Ask a lawyer licensed in the appropriate state about deadlines, who may bring a claim and whether the facts support representation. The office that maintains a record cannot choose your legal strategy.
