North Dakota's Highway Patrol directs crash-report requests to the state's transportation report system. Identify the investigating agency, incident date and available crash number before searching. A local police records office may also explain which report was prepared and what related material is available. General traffic statistics and a copy of an individual investigation are different products, so describe the document sought rather than requesting an undefined accident file.
Workforce Safety and Insurance publishes a separate claims-process guide. It explains that receiving a claim number means a claim has been registered, while acceptance or denial is a later decision. Keep employer reporting and WSI correspondence labeled independently of police records. The North Dakota Court System provides court locations, public-access information and legal self-help resources for matters that have entered court. Our Stark County guide links Dickinson Police and the courthouse visitor information, including the need to confirm local hours and time zone. After a fall or treatment concern, identify the business or provider holding private records. A records request or free review inquiry cannot itself establish fault, benefit entitlement or acceptance by an attorney.

The official place inventory contains 1,711 geographic entries in North Dakota. It includes small incorporated places and census-designated communities. A directory entry identifies a place and its statewide resource route; it does not claim that an attorney or office is based there.

A traffic report, an employer incident report, a property owner’s report and a medical record are different documents. Start with the organization that created the record. Do not assume a statewide agency holds every local file.
- Car, truck, motorcycle, pedestrian and bicycle collisions: identify the responding law-enforcement agency and report number.
- Slip, trip and fall incidents: retain the exact property location and any report made to the owner or manager.
- Work-related injuries: keep the employer notice and claim correspondence separate from a safety complaint.
- Medical care concerns: list providers and treatment dates so records requests go to the correct custodian.
Before discussing your injury inquiry
Write a short timeline, preserve original documents and identify gaps rather than filling them with guesses. A government record is information, not a promise that a legal claim exists. Ask a lawyer licensed in the appropriate state about deadlines, who may bring a claim and whether the facts support representation. The office that maintains a record cannot choose your legal strategy.
