Direct answer. For an Accoville road injury inquiry, preserve the full road name and any route identifier before choosing a document recipient. WVDOT’s Logan County highway map labels Accoville, and its historical April–June 2019 plan lists Accoville Hollow Road, Accoville Flats Road and Accoville Subdivision separately. Those dated labels can help compare papers; they do not establish present road conditions, work performed or responsibility for an occurrence.
An account that says only “Accoville road” can leave an important location question unanswered. The selected Accoville community is a West Virginia census-designated place, and WVDOT’s Logan County highway map labels the community. A historical state maintenance plan uses several different Accoville road labels. Those references offer a practical way to check whether photographs, correspondence and an injury account describe the same place. They cannot locate an occurrence by themselves. Start with the person’s actual observations and existing papers, then use published names to identify a specific uncertainty instead of silently replacing the original description.
Preserve the complete name written on each item
The state’s April–June 2019 Logan County plan separately labels Accoville Hollow Road, Accoville Flats Road and Accoville Subdivision. Keep those names intact when comparing them with an actual address, message or photograph. A shortened name can conceal that the sources are referring to different entries.
Make a small comparison sheet identifying the item, its date and the location wording exactly as it appears. If someone used “Hollow” orally but a later message says “Flats,” record the difference as a question. Do not decide that one speaker was mistaken, or change a report’s wording, merely because a historical table supplies a more formal name.
Keep the route code with its dated source
The same historical plan pairs Accoville Hollow Road with CR 16/1, Accoville Flats Road with CR 116/7 and Accoville Subdivision with CR 16/27. These are separate published entries; the extra digit or suffix matters when explaining which entry you found. Keep a copy of the heading that dates the plan along with any selected row.
Use the codes as search and comparison references, not as present-day ownership findings. If a current paper uses a different code, retain both versions and ask which identifier matches the requested location and period. A number copied from an older plan should never replace a supported contemporary scene description without clarification.
Describe the part of the journey or roadside involved
The Logan map distinguishes county-route and state-route symbols in its legend and dates its road data to January 2025. For a vehicle collision, record the actual direction of travel and the last clearly identified reference before the occurrence. For an injury while approaching a vehicle or walking beside a road, describe that activity separately. A driveway, roadway edge and destination entrance may appear in one account while referring to different physical places.
Retain the original photographs, their sequence and the photographer’s explanation. Label pictures made afterward rather than presenting them as contemporaneous views. If a landmark was identified only from a later conversation, keep that source visible. There is no need to estimate a precise distance or draw a boundary when the available evidence does not support one.
Treat a maintenance plan as a planning document
The historical document’s April–June 2019 heading is essential context. A road listed there is not proof that a particular task happened, that a condition remained unchanged or that the plan describes the date of an injury. Its maintenance columns cannot fill a gap in the person’s own account.
If an existing work record is relevant to the inquiry, explain the supported road reference and date range, then ask what record or recipient can address that question. Keep a planning entry separate from any actual work order, inspection, correspondence or completion information later supplied. Do not describe any of those additional documents as existing until an appropriate source confirms them.
Use the transportation records route for a focused question
WVDOT’s current Legal Division page identifies the division as the agency’s public-records request hub and provides a request link. That is a starting point for asking about existing agency records. It does not establish that WVDOT holds every item connected with an Accoville account, and a records inquiry is not an injury claim submission.
A useful description can pair the complete location wording with the relevant dates and the kind of existing item sought. If the road reference is unresolved, say so. Ask for routing clarification rather than assigning a document to an office because its name appeared in a search result. Confirm the current instructions before sharing sensitive details.
Keep the location question separate from the injury account
The final packet can include the original occurrence description, a dated comparison of road references and a short list of remaining questions. Preserve any response with the particular question it answers. A referral or unsuccessful search may explain a routing problem without resolving the scene, road administration or circumstances of the injury.
Keep treatment papers organized by their actual provider and encounter, without using a road plan to interpret medical findings. The purpose of reconciling the Accoville labels is to make the supporting account easier to evaluate. It does not require deciding who was responsible, why a condition existed or what conclusion an individual record will support.
