"method": "All Census incorporated places and census-designated places in the 50 U.S. states, supplemented with every active general-purpose county subdivision (FUNCSTAT A, B or C) whose exact official name is not already represented by a Census place in its state. Same-named townships in different counties are retained separately and labeled with their county. No population threshold. Counties include county equivalents, Connecticut planning regions and Louisiana parishes. A place and a municipal subdivision may overlap; these are geographic directory records, not a count of distinct cities. District of Columbia, territories, neighborhoods and unrecognized locality aliases are outside this 50-state Census inventory. Directory inclusion does not imply a local office, attorney availability, an individual researched article or a search ranking."
